Church revamp runs out of money

Town Church, St Peter Port
The cost of re-wiring the church escalated once work began

Guernsey's Town Church has been forced to take out a loan after funds for a restoration project escalated by more than £100,000.

According to church warden, Ellis Bebb, unforseen problems surfaced after the work to re-wire the building began.

As a result, the total costs have risen from £240,000 to £400,000.

The church has undertaken a loan of £125,000 to cover the costs. It is hoped that the work will be completed by the end of the year.
