States consults over minimum wage

A public consultation exercise is under way in Guernsey to find out people's views on what rate the minimum wage should be on the island.

The States is seeking feedback from employees, workers and organisations as well as from members of the public.

The information will help the States establish current market rates of pay for workers employed in jobs that are traditionally lower paid.

The questionnaire is available online and from Raymond Falla House.

Carla McNulty Bauer, Minister for Commerce & Employment, said: "The Board will use the information from the consultation to arrive at a balanced decision, which provides a fair rate of pay, but which also allows business to function with the minimum of restrictions.

"The consultation process is confidential and any responses will be treated as such and individuals or employers can remain anonymous."

The closing date for completed questionnaires in 28 August.
