Candles lit for island rescuers

Creux Harbour candles
The candles were bought in memory of people's loved ones

The walls of Creux harbour in the Channel Island of Sark were lined with candles on Sunday.

The candles were lit to raise money for the emergency services in Sark and Guernsey.

About 2,500 candles were sold for £5 each, with people encouraged to buy one in memory of a loved one.

Organisers of the fundraising event began the lighting up ceremony at about 2030 BST with all the candles lit by 2100 BST.
