Chief ministers faces title loss

The title of chief minister in Guernsey could be abolished.

A States committee wants anyone holding the title to be known as the President of the Policy Council.

It is one of 30 changes the States Assembly and Constitution Committee wants to make to the way the government conducts business.

Any title of minister would be replaced by department "presidents", which is how they were known before Machinery of Government changes in 2004.

Among the other suggestions for changes being put forward are plans to force members to declare the business interests of politicians' spouses, and companies in which they have a controlling interest.
