Reservoir levels 'good' at 90%

Guernsey is in a good position to cope with peak summer demand, the island's water company says.

Guernsey Water said that, despite lower than average rainfall, reservoir levels were still high.

Guernsey's rainfall for June was 60% below the monthly seasonal average. But reservoir levels are currently at 90% of their capacity, it said.

Guernsey Water said better leak control and customers using water more wisely had also helped preserve supplies.

The island's two main reservoirs are Longue Hougue Quarry and St Saviour's Reservoir.

A desalination plant was built in the 1950s but was decommissioned in the 1970s because it was uneconomical.
