States pressed on local recruits

Greater effort needs to be made to entice local workers into Guernsey's health services a States minister said.

The capacity of Giffard Ward at Princess Elizabeth Hospital is to be reduced by 10 beds until September because of a shortage of nurses.

Some politicians say the island should encourage more overseas workers.

But Marc Laine, Deputy Minister for Employment, said growing unemployment meant the the island should increase local recruits into hospitals.
