Parking charge proposal scrapped

Motorists have been spared an annual upfront charge for parking in Guernsey.

The States rejected the idea of a 26 disc which was proposed as a method of funding a new transport strategy and as an alternative to hourly paid parking.

So instead of having to pay an hourly charge for parking, motorists would have paid a single charge annually.

Instead, States members backed a proposal by Deputy Al Brouard to increase bus fares and fuel duty which he said was fairer.
