Private schools face grants cut

Elizabeth College
Elizabeth College is one of three schools facing funding cuts

Guernsey's education minister wants to cut the level of funding the island's private schools get from the States.

Taxpayers subsidise fees at Elizabeth College, Ladies College and Blanchelande by 4.5m a year.

But Carol Steere believes the grants cannot continue as her department attempts to cut costs.

She said that the change would be discussed between the rest of the department's members before a decision was made.
