Flu bug forces op cancellations

The virus is believed to be influenza H3

Routine operations were cancelled at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey last week because of illness.

Health and social services said the decision was taken because of the number of patients and staff suffering from a flu-like illness.

Only emergency medical admissions were accepted and all non-urgent in-patient surgery was cancelled.

A total of 30 people were contacted and advised their postponed surgery should be rescheduled within four weeks.

The illness is believed to be the influenza H3 strain.
