A housing association could soon be set up in Alderney to help upgrade the island's States-owned accommodation and build a number of new properties.
The calls follow concern over a lack of affordable homes for locals and the deterioration of States-owned housing.
States members will be asked to consider setting up a housing association at a meeting on 14 January.
If they agree to set one up, they will use Guernsey Housing Association as a model to work from.
In a recent letter to the States of Alderney, Richard Wilmott, chairman of the policy and finance committee, said that the island had an ageing and mixed stock of States-owned housing, much of which was badly in need of repair and not fit for purpose.
He also expressed concern over the difficulty in providing affordable homes for key workers and those who have grown up locally.
