Ticket machines will cost £120K

Guernsey's buses are getting new ticket machines at a cost of £120,000.

The Environment Department says the current electronic system, which dates from 1995, is at the end of its practical and economic life.

There are currently 39 buses in use locally which are operated by Island Coachways on behalf of the department.

The new equipment is the latest technology and will make it possible for the department to record bus passenger movements and analysis fares.

The machines should be installed by February or March 2009.
