Parish votes for new douzeniers

St Sampson Douzaine Room
Douzeniers discuss island affairs and parochial matters

Three new douzeniers were voted into office in Guernsey on Tuesday.

The number of candidates across the island meant St Sampson was the only parish to be contested.

Twenty-five people voted, electing David Hugo, Ian Le Page, and Anthony Sebire. Yvonne Tanner was unsuccessful in her bid for office.

Voting in St Peters and in St Peter Port was deferred following a request for a secret ballot. That will now take place on 19 November.

Candidates standing in the Vale, St Martin, St Andrew, Castel, St Saviour, Torteval and the Forest were elected unopposed.

Douzeniers meet every month to discuss the island affairs and other parochial matters.

They are also responsible for inspecting hedges and streams twice a year in June and September to ensure they meet legal requirements.
