Tidal power public presentation

Alderney: Pic ACRE
ACRE works to ensure renewable energy would not damage the island

The future of tidal power in the Channel Island of Alderney will be discussed at a public meeting.

Alderney is said to have one of the largest and most accessible tidal power resources in Europe.

The presentation, in Island Hall, will be given by the Alderney Commission for Renewable Energy (ACRE).

Last year the island's government gave the green light to test new technology off the coast of Alderney over the next five years.

ACRE was formed in 2005 to regulate the development of renewable energy on behalf of the States of Alderney.

It works to ensure the exploitation of natural resources such as wave power does not damage the island's fishing industry, shipping or the environment.
