QE2 misses its final port of call

The QE2 passenger liner has cancelled its last ever port-of-call in Guernsey because of bad weather.

The vessel had been due to anchor off St Martin on the last stage of its final transatlantic voyage from New York to Southampton.

But the captain announced to passengers earlier that conditions were too windy to moor.

The 40-year-old ship is being taken out of service next month and turned into a floating hotel in Dubai.

The QE2 left Southampton for its last round voyage to New York on 10 October.

The QE2 will leave UK waters for the last time on 11 November, with a large ceremony and fireworks display planned in Southampton.
