States employees ' pay and occupier rates will be discussed

The global economic situation is putting increasing pressure on Alderney's finances, the chairman of Policy and Finance has said.

Richard Willmott's report will be discussed by the island's government when it meets to discuss the budget for next year.

The report highlights concerns that £40,000 will need to taken from savings in order to balance the budget in 2009.

Mr Willmott said the credit crisis had already reduced the island's income.

As part of the budget, Alderney States members will consider raising occupier rates by 5% next year.

A planned pay increase for States workers is likely to be no more than 4%.
