Battery woodwork to be replaced

Part of a gun battery in Guernsey is being repaired again 13 years after works were completed there.

Wooden structures in the battery at Rousse Tower have deteriorated through being constantly exposed to the elements and need replacing.

They will be replaced with bricks, which are seen as a permanent solution.

The gun battery will be closed for three months while the work is carried out, but members of the public will still be able to access the tower.

The Rousse tower and battery were built on one of the headlands commanding the entrance to Grand Havre Bay. They were commissioned in 1778.

Fifteen towers were built around the island after Britain decided to improve Guernsey's defences because of increased tensions with France.
