States steps up green power bid

Guernsey has set up a group dedicated to developing renewable energy from the island's wind and tidal resources.

It is the first step to creating a Guernsey Renewable Energy Commission that would be responsible for promoting and licensing energy projects.

Members include advocate Richard Babbe and Peter Neville, director of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission.

Jeremy Thompson, director of a private equity group, will also be a member of the group.

The group's creation follows an energy policy report to Guernsey States in June this year.
