VAT reminder for island sellers

People in the Bailiwick selling items worth more than £18 to purchasers in the UK are being reminded they need to pay VAT.

In the UK, 17.5% is charged on a variety of products but no such tax exists in Guernsey.

And people in the island regularly use the popular internet auction site Ebay to sell goods to the UK from Guernsey.

They are being reminded it is a requirement to pay duty on items sent that have a value above £18.

The Assistant Chief Officer for Customs and Excise Tony Robin says if the sender does not pay the duty then the person who receives the goods will have to.
