Waste recycling rates see a stall

Recycling conveyer belt
The States wants 50% of households recycling by 2010

The number of households in Guernsey recycling rubbish has stalled.

New figures from the Public Services Department show that the number of homes which recycle waste has flat-lined over the past 18 months.

The report said only 31% of waste was recycled in the past three months, the same as for the whole of 2007.

It said the States' target of 50% of households recycling by 2010 seemed increasingly unlikely unless more people were encouraged to be involved.
