Surf school wants sewage treated

Water users had to stay out of the sea when a sewage pipe burst

Further pressure has been put on the States of Guernsey to introduce a full sewage treatment system.

A petition has been initiated by the new Guernsey Surf School at Vazon following recent sewage problems.

It calls on Chief Minister Lyndon Trott to take action and stop raw sewage being discharged into the sea.

Surfers and swimmers were told to stay out of the sea for a few days after a sewage pipe burst at the Belle Greve pumping station.

The campaign group Surfers Against Sewage has been campaigning for a full sewage treatment plant in the island for a number of years.

But last year, a States report proposed a five-year study on the effects of pumping macerated raw sewage into the sea - the island's current method of disposal.
