Pupils try out new school route

Parents and pupils are planning to try out a proposed walking route to two new schools at Les Nicolles in Guernsey.

The route was devised by pedestrian safety group Living Streets after fears that pupils walking to the schools would be at risk from traffic.

Some of the route involves walking along green lanes, cutting out major roads altogether.

The organisation is currently in discussions with landowners to allow permission to use private land.

Traffic calming measures, including a 20mph speed limit around the new schools, have already been announced.

St Sampsons High School and Le Murier School for children with learning difficulties are due to open in St Sampsons in September.
