Single nomination for jurat post

A single nomination has been received for the vacant post of jurat in Guernsey's Royal Court.

The position has become vacant with the 75th birthday of Keith Bichard - the age when jurats are required to retire.

Stephen Jones is the only person to have been put forward. He was proposed by Chief Minister Lyndon Trott and seconded by Deputy Geoff Mahy.

Nominations opened at the end of last month and deputies have until 11 July to present further names.

The election, by States deputies, will take place on 30 July.

The Bailiwick of Guernsey has 12 jurats - professional jurors, or lay members of the Royal Court - who judge fact rather than law and sit with the presiding Bailiff or deputy in the Royal Court.
