Fuel cost forces ferry fare rise

Trident ferry: Pic Herm Island
The ferry sails from Guernsey to Herm every day

A company which runs ferries to the Channel Island of Herm has announced the introduction of a fuel surcharge.

Passengers on Trident vessels will pay an extra 50p for a return journey from next month.

Trident said its fuel bill had risen by nearly 80% this year and it could not continue to absorb the increasing cost of running its Herm ferry fleet.

General manager Peter Wilcox said child fares would stay the same, in order not to discourage families from visiting.

The ferry offers a daily service from Guernsey, with additional crossings during the summer.

Last month Sark Shipping also introduced a £1 surcharge on all its return sailings.
