Maximum legal tariff may increase

The rising cost of oil could see consumers pay more for their electricity in Alderney.

States Members in the island will consider the increase at their meeting next week.

Increases in oil prices and the need to finance a capital investment programme may prompt the States to raise the tariff on each unit of electricity.

The present flat rate tariff and fuel cost component for a unit of electricity in Alderney is 36.47p.

It is being proposed that the maximum permitted tariff allowed by law is amended to 50p.

The issue will be considered by the States of Alderney at its meeting on 18 June.
