New one-way system is announced

Traffic light
The measures are to ensure road safety for pupils walking to the schools

Plans for a one-way system around two new schools have been announced by Guernsey's environment department.

St Sampsons High School and Le Murier School for children with learning difficulties are due to open in St Sampsons in September.

The Environment Department had come under fire for saying it was going to wait until the schools were open to consider traffic calming measures.

There had been concerns pupils would have been at risk walking to school.

The Environment Department plans to make a section of Baubigny Road one-way northbound.

Le Bordage Road, from Baubigny to Les Effards, will be one-way westbound, as will Les Effards, from its junction with Le Bordage to La Route Des Capelles.

Oatlands Lane and Epinelle Road will also be made one-way.
