Sewage pipe repairs begin at sea

Belle Greve Bay
A new section of pipe is being installed offshore

Work has begun to repair Guernsey's main sewage outfall pipe.

Divers are installing a new section of pipe to bypass a leak about 1km (0.62 mile) offshore from Les Banques.

Previous attempts to stem the leak using concrete and sandbags were unsuccessful and the damaged section of pipe will now be removed.

Waste will be diverted while the work, expected to take up to six weeks, is carried out. The estimated cost is £180,000.
