Cabbies blame fuel costs on rises

Rising fuel prices and increasing costs are forcing taxi drivers to apply to increase their fares in Guernsey says the Taxi Owners Federation.

The body, which represents about two-thirds of the island's drivers, wants an average increase, across all fare tariffs, of 4.8%.

Federation secretary Mike Mauger said they needed the increase to sustain a viable business.

The Environment Department is considering whether to accept the rise.
