New children's service is opened

A new service representing children in legal proceedings has officially opened in Guernsey.

The Bailiff Geoff Rowland unveiled a plaque to mark the opening of Safeguarder Services.

The service will provide confidential advice, mediation and conciliation in cases of divorce or separation where children are involved.

The new body will do the work previously carried out by the Court Welfare and Guardian ad Litem services.

It will liaise with all parties and make recommendations to the court on the children's best interests and will operate independently of the Health and Social Services Department.
