Votes counted in General Election

Votes being counted
Seventeen deputies will be elected for the first time

Polling stations have closed and votes are being counted in Guernsey's parliamentary elections, which take place every four years.

Eighty-seven candidates will now have to wait for the returning officers to announce who has been elected as a People's Deputy.

Over the past month, islanders have quizzed candidates at parish hustings held across all seven districts.

The first results are expected just before midnight.

Forty-five deputies will be elected to the States.
