New oak tree for public library

Candie House, home to the Priaulx Library
Candie House became Guernsey's first public library in 1889

A new oak tree has been planted in the grounds of Guernsey's Priaulx Library to replace a 160-year-old specimen which was felled last year.

Guernsey's Bailiff Geoff Rowland planted the new Turkey Oak.

The original oak, which was planted by a former bailiff, Sir Peter Stafford Carey, had to be destroyed due to a fungal infection.

His home, Candie House, was later donated to the people of Guernsey to be the island's first public library.
