Funds 'will be found' for aiport
Money will be found to pay for upgrading the runway facilities at Guernsey Airport, the island's top politician has said.

A £50m estimate has been submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority, but it far exceeds the original £10m budget.

Costs will need to go to the States for final approval before the upgrade of the airport runway, taxiway and apron.

Chief Minister Mike Torode told States members work was taking place to find the necessary funds.

The estimate, prepared by a design team hired by Public Services, includes the option of extending the runway for an additional £25m.

Airport Director Colin Le Ray said if approved, work on the runway will begin in 2009.
