Telecoms firm completes network
Guernsey Airtel has said it has met all its deadlines for setting up a network on the island.

As part of its licensing agreement with the Office of Utility Regulation (OUR), the telecoms company had to provide 55% coverage by 8 December.

The company was originally due to have started operating in September but met planning permission problems when it came to putting up phone masts.

So far 14 planning applications have been given the go-ahead.

Protest march

The company was given a three month extension by the OUR to deal with its planning delays.

Since the operator has tried to set up there has been strong opposition to the idea of any new masts, including a petition and a protest march.

Airtel Executive Director has said a third of its new mast sites will be shared with other companies.

Currently only 16 out of the 62 masts in the Bailiwick are used by more than one company.
