Alderney could see 5% rate rise
People living in Alderney could soon see a rise of 5% to occupiers' rates, which the authorities believe is needed to cover costs.

The system of calculating property tax is changing from January, but rates for the next year will still be based on the old rateable values.

With the rise in Guernsey's waste disposal costs the authority believes the increased amount is necessary.

Occupiers' rates account for 30% of the local revenue for Alderney States.

States members will debate next Wednesday on what level the charge should be set at.

The new figures will be used in 2009.
