Fuel costs force taxi fare rise
Taxi drivers are pushing for a 6% increase in fares because of Guernsey's spiralling fuel costs.

The Environment Department is being asked to agree to the rise to help the island's taxi owners cover their costs and overheads.

Aaron Rabbe, the Secretary of the Guernsey Taxi Drivers' Federation, said the request is a "last resort".

Drivers have already unsuccessfully tried to get the Treasury to come up with a subsidy or tax rebate.

Mr Rabbe added: "Members of the Federation have to pass on increasing costs to passengers to avoid running at a loss."
