Minimum wage decision in autumn
A decision is expected to be made in the autumn on whether workers in Guernsey should have a minimum wage.

No figure has yet been released and it is unclear whether it would be at the same level as the UK.

This month it was announced the minimum wage in the UK was to rise by 17p to £5.52 an hour from October 2007.

But Guernsey having a similar system has had a mixed response. The Commerce and Employment department is currently looking at the issue.

But it is being claimed a minimum wage could have a devastating affect on the island's horticultural industry and that any extras, such as accommodation and travel, should be taken into account when deciding the wage level.
