Pubs petition against smoking ban
Pubs in Alderney have launched petitions against a proposed smoking ban in the island.

The States of Alderney is discussing a ban smoking in enclosed public places next week. The proposal aims to protect workers from passive smoking.

Seven of the island's 11 pubs have started petitions to gather support against the ban.

Publicans have voiced concerns the ban would lead to dirtier streets and businesses would suffer.

A comprehensive debate would also be held on whether to bring in a ban.

Guernsey, Herm and Jersey have already banned smoking in enclosed places.
