States could extend paid parking

Legislation has been drafted to cover the collection of parking fees
Guernsey motorists could be hit by more paid parking later this year if the States decides to extend the scheme.

From October, drivers will have to pay 15p an hour to use the long stay car parks in St Peter Port.

But the Environment Department has now given the green light for organisations to tender for running a paid-parking scheme in the island.

The desirability and practicality of extending the scheme will be considered by the States in March.

Laws permitting the collection of fees have been drafted, although the details of the scheme are not yet known.
