Fuel cost rise may hit taxi fares
Guernsey taxi drivers say they will be asking the Environment Department for a fare increase because of the rise in fuel costs.

Petrol duty is set to go up by 6.2 pence a litre from next year.

The Guernsey Taxi Owners' Federation president, John Le Couteur, said he hoped the States would accept the cost of running a cab would go up.

The Environment Department has to approve any increase in the cost of taxi fares each year.

Mr Le Couteur said the extra costs were bound to play a part in the submission they made next April and he hoped the States would be sympathetic to the drivers' request to put up fares.
