Minister's peace offer on tender
Princess Elizabeth Hospital
The lowest tender for the clinical block was withdrawn in August
Health chiefs have promised to end a row over tendering for a new multi-million pound clinical block at Guernsey's Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

In August the Policy Council opted for a £27m tender, which was £2m higher than a tender by builders RG Falla.

As a result the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has called for an independent review into the tendering process for the block.

But Health Minister Peter Roffey said the project should not be delayed.

Delay will not allow that block to be built at a cheaper price

He said the Health and Social Services Department was planning to amend its own report on the plans for the clinical block in order to clear up "confusion" over the tendering process.

Mr Roffey said: "Delay will not allow that block to be built at a cheaper price.

"At one time there was a cheaper bid on the table, but that has been withdrawn, full stop."

The redevelopment of the site was named as the top capital priority in the States meeting on Wednesday.
