Islanders boost scanner appeal

The scanner will allow for more accurate diagnoses of conditions

Islanders have donated more than £100,000 to a BBC Radio Guernsey appeal for a MRI scanner for the island.

A letter drop around the Bailiwick by Guernsey Post and Hamilton Brooke resulted in a total of £106,000 being handed into post offices.

The appeal is £45,000 short of its total to raise £450,000 for a new scanner for the island's hospital.

The Credit Suisse bank has donated £300,000 towards the rest of the £750,000 cost.

The scanner will allow for more accurate diagnoses of conditions.

In 2005, more than 600 patients in Guernsey needing an MRI scan were forced to go to Jersey or overseas for the test.

Various fundraising events have taken place since the appeal was launched in June.
