Minister makes waste export plans
Guernsey's environment minister says exporting the island's waste is the best short-term solution available.

The Environment Department is proposing to send rubbish to France until a long-term solution is agreed, but it will cost millions of pounds.

The proposals go before the States later this month. The government rejected the option of building an incinerator in Guernsey last year.

The landfill site Mont Cuet is expected to be full by spring 2014.

The Minister for Environment, Bernard Flouquet, said despite the costs of export, such plans had to be made until a solution was found.
