States office acts to cut waste
A Guernsey States department has begun a waste reduction campaign in a bid to lead in-house recycling efforts.

The Works Department, in charge of landfill sites and recycling points, is aiming to reduce its own generated waste and do more recycling.

Recycling bins have been placed in all Works sites and managers asked to cut down on extra packaging by bulk buying.

General manager Nigel Dorey said reducing packaging was integral to solving recycling issues.

He said: "It is an area we are exploring.

"If you can reduce on the packaging, that can go a huge way towards reducing the problems we have.

"We have written to all our main suppliers asking them to bear that in mind for us."
