Shoppers help MRI scanner appeal
MRI scanner
600 patients in Guernsey needed an MRI scan in 2005
Shoppers in Guernsey are being offered the chance help raise funds for an MRI scanner for the island's hospital.

A campaign by BBC Radio Guernsey is aiming to raise £750,000 to buy the live-saving equipment for the island.

Shoppers at Co-op stores can help by quoting a special share number when paying which will mean 8 pence in every £1 they spend goes to the appeal.

The scanner will allow for quicker and more accurate diagnoses of conditions including muscle damage and cancer.

In 2005, more than 600 patients in Guernsey needing an MRI scan were forced to go to Jersey or Southampton for the test.

Since BBC Radio Guernsey launched the appeal on Monday, hundreds of pounds have already been pledged towards the total.

Shoppers at the Co-op should quote share account number 16161 when paying for goods.
