Trees in the Saumarez Park are being examined
A second tree has toppled over at a Guernsey park, only a week after a large turkey oak next to the children's play park crushed two parked cars.

The children's playground at Saumarez Park has been closed since the first tree crashed to the ground.

At the time the area was busy with children and parents enjoying the start of the summer holidays.

Early checks revealed signs of fungal decay and an expert is checking how widespread the problem is.

The 150-year-old treehouse tree, one of Guernsey's most well known, has been a popular attraction for generations of visitors to the park.

It was one of three trees earmarked for the chop because of worries about safety.
