Tree falls near children's area
Fallen tree
The playground will remain closed while tree safety checks are done
A tree has fallen on two parked cars near the children's play area at Saumarez Park in Guernsey.

It is not thought anybody has been injured, but fire and rescue officers used thermal imaging equipment to check the inside of the vehicles.

The 30ft (9.1m) tree is believed to have fallen from the side of the play area into the car park.

A witness said the playground was packed with children when the tree fell at about 1430 BST on Wednesday.

The play area, which is popular with local people and tourists, has been closed. It is expected to remain shut until the end of the week while safety checks are carried out on trees nearby.
