Businessman urges spam fightback
Computer users who receive junk e-mails are being urged to fight back by a Channel Islands businessman.

Nigel Roberts from Alderney has set up a website, Spam Legal Action, to show other internet users how they can take legal action against spam e-mails.

He won a landmark court case against UK firm Media Logistics after being sent daily spam e-mails.

Mr Roberts decided to take action under new European laws and was awarded £270 compensation, plus costs.

He believes court fines would deter companies from sending junk mail, and if everyone was to follow suit it could help stamp out the practice for good.

He said: "Anyone could do this. I am pleased to say that we have the equivalent law in Guernsey, the e-privacy directive, which is almost a copy of the UK legislation."
