Finance industry can create jobs
Money
A final decision is due to be made by the States next February
The future of Guernsey's finance industry looks promising, according to a report in a national newspaper.

The article in the Financial Times focuses on the challenges the island faces with proposed tax reforms.

Radical plans to abolish corporation tax are being considered to protect the industry and encourage companies to stay in the island.

Peter Niven of Guernsey Finance said he was confident new jobs could be created which will strengthen the industry.

Employment opportunity

Mr Niven said he believed the current economic uncertainties could have a positive side.

He said: "There are certain parts of the finance sector which are doing exceptionally well at the moment.

"With the strenuous efforts we're making to attract new intellectual capital into the island, I see an opportunity for some very, very good jobs being created in the island with the inflow of new business."

A special States meeting will take place in February to decide the issue of tax reforms.
