Yacht club at sea over clubhouse
The interior of the Aqua-Star Explorer

A Guernsey yacht club is taking to the water because of a shortage of suitable seafront premises.

Members of the Royal Channel Island Yacht Club are hoping to turn a 75ft Aqua-Star Explorer boat into their brand new floating clubhouse.

If planning permission is granted it will be moored at Crown Pier.

Commodore David Evans is confident they will be able to raise the £400,000 needed and believes it will bring several benefits to the locality.

"It will enhance the harbour, I think, with the amenities that we'll offer to visiting yachtsmen," he said.

"And of course it supports Guernsey industry with Aqua-Star being a local company.

"It will also add finance to the harbour because we shall be required to pay a fee."
