Alderney residents will have an extra bank holiday later this year.
Unlike the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, the States of Alderney do not have a day off to commemorate Liberation Day on 9 May.
The States said 15 December will become a Bank Holiday, marking the day the evacuees returned to Alderney in 1945.
Only about 12 islanders were left when the Nazis evacuated Alderney, which also housed the only German concentration camp on British soil.
Many of the slave occupants died building Hitler's defences on the island during World War II.
