Competition group looks to Jersey
A working party looking into competition law in Guernsey is visiting Jersey on Friday to learn from its neighbour's experience.

The working party was set up in the wake of the takeover of Morrisons supermarket by Channel Island Traders.

The representatives from the Guernsey group will be finding out how the law operates in Jersey and what lessons might be learnt from it.

Jersey introduced competition legislation at the start of May 2005.

Jersey now has a regulatory authority with a staff of eight, which costs the taxpayer about £500,000 a year.

The representatives from the Guernsey working party will be finding out how the law operates in Jersey and what lessons might be learnt from it.

A definite decision on whether Guernsey will bring in legislation to police competition and monopolies has not yet been made.
